Surface Preparation:
Stain Application: Apply the stain evenly until you achieve the desired color. Wipe off excess stain with an old rag after each application.
Drying: Allow the stain to dry overnight before applying a sanding sealer.
Sanding Sealer Application: After the stain has dried, apply a sanding sealer and let it dry for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Final Sanding: Once the sanding sealer is dry, sand the surface with #400 grit sandpaper or a Mirka scrubbing pad (maroon) to remove minor imperfections and create an even surface prior to top coating.
Sand surface until wood is smooth to touch and no rough edges remain, dust off surface completely then wipe with a clean dry rag. Fill all holes and cracks using wood filler. For previously finished wood in a poor condition, pour an ample amount of paint remover or stripping agent on the old rag. Wipe it on the old wood. Wait 5 - 10 minutes. Use the scraper to get off anything on the old wood. Always wipe off with an old rag after each scrape. Use (#180 grit) sandpaper to get rid of old stains or bumps on the wood. Apply stain until you achieve the desired color. Allow overnight drying of the stain before applying sanding sealer. Let the sanding sealer dry for 30 min to 1 hour.
Sand down with (#400 grit) sand paper or with a Mirka scrubbing pad (maroon) to remove minor imperfections and to create an even surface prior to top coating. Dust off with a clean dry cloth. Apply desired topcoat to provide a protective coating. Use Clear Gloss Lacquer for a glossy finish or Dead Flat Lacquer for a matte/flat finish. You can mix 50-50 ratio of the Clear Gloss and Dead Flat to achieve a satin finish.
